Migraine related to Epilepsy | |
Migraine and epilepsy frequently occur together, and the association between the two conditions is more than coincidental. Epilepsy is relatively rare compared to migraine, affecting only 0.5% of the population, or one in 200 people. However, several studies of migraine patients have shown the rate of epilepsy to be much higher, about 6%. In other words, epilepsy is about 12 times more common among people with migraine than it is in the general population. In addition, people with epilepsy appear to have a higher risk of developing migraine at some point of their lives. Studies have shown migraine sufferers to be twelve times as likely to suffer from epilepsy than non-migraine sufferers. The link is further shown by the fact that some drugs used for the control of epilepsy have been approved by the FDA for the purpose of treating migraine. Not withstanding the link between migraine and epilepsy The Headache Clinic has successfully cured and prevented migraine in many patients that suffer from Epilepsy without the use of drugs or medication. |
