The Headache Clinic has five treatment priorities

To exclude any life threatening causes of the headaches. Patients will have a thorough Neurological examination but will not be sent for MRI, MRA or CAT scans unless the neurological examination indicates that this is absolutely necessary.

To find the underlying causes of each patient's pain and provide permanent drug-free medical treatment that will prevent the recurrence of the headaches.

To eliminate chemical dependencies. Both over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription analgesics can be addictive and are known to cause Analgesic Rebound Headaches, which are often worse and more frequent than the original Headaches. Repetitive use of even mild medications can have long-term damaging side effects on both the headaches and the rest of the body.

To provide treatment with low ongoing costs. Once patients have been successfully treated at The Headache Clinic there will be no further need to constantly spend money on medication, specialist consultations, rescue treatments and hospitalisation.

To break the link between the triggering factors of the headaches and the underlying causes of the headache pain, and thereby to restore patient's Quality of Life to what it should be.
Please note that any diagnostic tests that the patient has had within the last six months will not be repeated if the results of the tests can be given to the diagnostic team. Although diagnostic equipment is sensitive enough to make an accurate diagnosis when the patient is not in pain, The Headache Clinic also specializes in Rescue Treatment and encourages patients to come in while experiencing the Headache.
